Polaroid Stories transforms the work of Ovid’s Metamorphosis into a non-linear, abstract look into the lives of destitute people. The show's story has an enigmatic quality that reads more like freeform poetry than spoken lines. Despite this, the characters are grounded in reality; they are hurt, disoriented, and scared children who must navigate an unforgiving world.
Every design struck a different balance between authenticity and subtle myth, particularly between the immortal characters and the mortal ones. Those who were immortal could feel more ethereal, while mortals, who are often ironically punished, could be significantly more downtrodden.
Each item in the show has been distressed to match the characters' world. This world is figuratively at the bottom of the barrel. Thus, there is no way out. The script gives them an ultimatum; transform or destroy themselves. Only some can find their way out of the labyrinth.
